The Monster Girlfriend series, by Marie Cardno

The tagline for the first book of this sapphic series is, “She’s just a girl, standing in front of another girl, trying to remember the correct number of eyeballs.” I was sold instantly. Every book in the series is free right now.

'Nathan Burgoine’s work is wonderful, an absolute must read for anyone interested in gay romance. Fortunately for us, this lovely time-travel novelette is currently free.
“With one diagnosis, editor James Daniels learns that he's literally running out of time. Looking at his life, he sees one regret: Andy, the one that got away. Andy was the first man that James ever loved, but Andy has been gone for years, and might not want to be found. But as his cancer progresses and James starts to lose his grip on time and memory, it might just be that time and memory are losing their grip on James, too. It's the biggest and most important re-write of his life. Restoring love from nothing but memory might be possible, if the past isn't too far gone to fix.”

This free book with queer rep is “a triptych of modern fantasy stories interrelated by family—stories with myths and demons and ghosts (oh my), and with romance and secrets and lies (and someone dies).”
Moon-Bright Tides, by RoAnna Sylver

The author also has a number of other discounted books, including a few more that are free. They can be found here.
Dryad, by Chris Howard
I read a few trade-published books by Chris Howard many years ago, and was surprised to see some of his work pop up on Smashwords. This one sounds particularly interesting; it’s described as “a standalone urban fantasy with a dystopian feel,” and this line from the blurb immediately grabbed me: “Theodora Vearin has a way with forests, composting, paranoia, and sudden death.”
The Dolph Malone series, by Maria Quick

Queer fantasy mystery series with noir vibes. I haven’t read it, but the blurbs sound interesting. Both books are currently free.
Reboot, by Melara Dark
The premise of this one grabbed my attention: “One perfectly normal morning, every living thing in the world besides David disappeared. What's more, every day appears to be the same day, and at the exact same time everything around him…well, the best word he has for it is 'reboots'. He doesn't know what caused this. He doesn't know what will happen next. He's just trying to survive. You see, he's the only one left in the world. Except for the monsters.”
Sometimes Unserious: A Short Story Collection, by Kane Jesse Howard

But that's not so easy when the killer might be watching their every move.”
A Brand New Patch of Sky, by Yolande Kleinn
